We don’t know about you but we love wildlife, and that’s why we think Sri Lanka has something amazing to offer you on your holiday.
Forget your land safaris! On the South Coast of Sri Lanka, a whale safari offers you the opportunity to see Blue Whales, Sperm Whales, Fin Whales, Common Dolphins, Bottlenose Dolphins, Spinner Dolphins, Risso’s Dolphins, Striped Dolphins and if you’re really lucky, Killer Whales.
Mirissa is the best place on the Sri Lankan Coast to experience these sightings of whales and dolphins. High season extends from November through to April – during this time, you’ll experience warm, calm waters that are the ideal conditions for whale watching. During the low season, the sea has a tendency to be substantially rougher making your sightings much less likely but an unsettled stomach far more likely!
If you’re not an expert on whales, the Blue Whale is a marine mammal and is the largest existent animal. Additionally, it is the heaviest to ever exist. Usually around 30m in length and weighing in at a huge 140+ tonnes, this mammal is impressive to say the least!
So, venture out to Mirissa during your trip to Sri Lanka and witness these beautiful animals first hand.
