Kai Sung is a must-visit when in Hong Kong. The district features beautiful beaches (the cleanest in Hong Kong) as well as being the home to Sai Kung Town – a former fishing village where you can feast on some of the best seafood in the world! Explore the ancient back-lanes, or visit the famous Tin Hau Temple before ending your day in the better-than-words dessert restaurant – Honeymoon Dessert, which attracts tourists from all over!
The Sai Kung Country Park is one of the only places that you can surf in Hong Kong (especially in winter) and is about one and a half hours walk from Tai Long Wan, otherwise known as Big Wave Bay. So if you’re a fan of the sport and you’re in the district, don’t forget your wetsuit!
Be sure to make a stop at the breath-taking Tai Long Sai Wan (one of the four beaches of the Tai Long Wan area in Kai Sung) which came first in the Hong Kong Best 10 Scenic Sites Election in 2006 with its crystal clear turquoise ocean kissing perfect white coastline.
If you prefer island hopping, you can hire small boats that are locally known as kaitos or sampan which are used to catch cuttle-fish. Boarding a kaito makes a nice, leisurely excursion which takes you around the inland sea that is dotted with beautiful islands. It’s a popular thing to do for local residents and a cool experience for tourists.
Now you may be thinking, are we in Hong Kong? Where are the skyscrapers? Where is the business district? If you want fast-paced city life in Kai Sung, venture to Tseung Kwan O (also called Junk Bay). It’s a new and bustling town that connects Kai Sung with the infamous and urban Kowloon. It was once a natural bay area that was developed by the government in the late ‘90s. The New Town now accommodates around 380,000 people which makes up about 95% of the entire district’s population!
Hong Kong is a wondrous place, full of excitement, culture and innovative design, not to mention natural beauty. When you next visit on your #FridayFunday, make sure you know just how much there is to choose from in Kai Sung and all other districts – we wouldn’t want you to miss out on all Hong Kong’s hidden gems!
